"And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; ........" Jesus - Mark 16:17
Having tackled healing, what about casting out demons?
It is part of Jesus' Great Commission! Mark 16 v15-18
He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."
Mary Magdalene by He Qi. Jesus cast out seven demons from Mary.
The author has to confess to having no experience of this and is indebted to Christine Darg for permission to reproduce this teaching. Are we up for a challenge?
There are two aspects of ministry: demolition and building. The church builds up the kingdom of God, but at the same time, we are in a war against the gates of Hell. God set Jeremiah over nations to pluck up and destroy but also to build and plant.
Some people are too demon-conscious, and that's very annoying. However, I've learned from being involved in Gospel campaigns with Reinhard Bonnke and with my own meetings that it's not enough to build God's kingdom. We must also be involved in the demolition of the kingdom of Satan.
A person of spiritual stature brings joy to Heaven by soul winning. But we must also cause havoc to the kingdom of darkness. We know from studying the Book of Ephesians that Satan's army is a well-ordered hierarchy: principalities, powers, world rulers of this present darkness, spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places and demons.
Demons take residence in people and places and must be cast out. You don't have to be a priest to cast out devils. Casting out demons is a sign that is supposed to follow every believer, according to the Great Commission in Mark Chapter 16.
As one who is called to fast and pray for the release of multitudes in the End-time harvest, I must consider seriously the work of demons against unbelievers to prevent them from receiving Jesus. Please take time to ponder these points:
Demons can blind people spiritually. Paul observed this in 2 Corinthians 4: 3-4.
"And even if our Gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing. In their case, the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the likeness of God." Therefore Satan, whom Paul calls "the god of this world," blinds people from seeing the Gospel.
My own Father and other mentors awakened me to the many ways that Satan blinds people:
By causing them to accept Jesus as just one of "many prophets" or as a "good moral teacher" rather than receiving Him as Lord
By propagating the tolerant, "religiously correct" view that there are multiple paths to God
By blinding people to the consequences of sin: They are deceived into thinking, "I am not a sinner - I am a good person" when, in fact, the Bible says there is not one who is good.... all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
By drugging people with apathy and carelessness to the urgency of salvation, deceiving them into thinking that they have loads of time, and it's not necessary to repent now. They are lulled into a deadly stupor, assuming they can put off receiving the Lord to another day. Yet "today is the day of salvation"... tomorrow is not guaranteed.
By deceiving people into thinking God is too good and too merciful to punish sinners
By propagating the lie that Hell is a party place for old friends and Hell-raisers
By spreading a lie that Heaven is a crashing bore.... when the Bible testifies there are pleasures forever at the right hand of God
By slandering preachers, and evangelists, inciting prejudice and hate against us
By depression and insanity so that people cannot comprehend and respond to the Lord
By blind, deaf and dumb spirits so that the ability to see, hear and perceive is diminished
God seeks intercessors who will stand in the gap and decree the Word into situations
God seeks serious believers who are filled with the Holy Spirit and who know how to cast out demons and to bind and overthrow strongholds by fasting and corporate prayer
God seeks believers who are willing to take up the armor of God and to withstand demons, wielding the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God
In Mark 3: 27 Jesus teaches us a practicality to rob the strongman of goods (souls) by first binding him and then plundering his goods. Obviously, more goods can be plundered when a strongman is bound; if he is not bound, we are fugitives on the run!
Therefore each evangelistic meeting must be protected by prayer and fasting. As Jesus and the apostles clearly demonstrated in many New Testament episodes, intercessory prayer is also commanding demons to depart! Intercessory prayer and casting out demons are best accompanied with fasting.
Furthermore, may God strengthen us today to take up the challenge to walk in a holy manner so that there will be no foothold of Satan in our lives to weaken our testimony and effectiveness! Otherwise, Satan just laughs. When a demon sneers, "Jesus I know and Paul I know, but who are you?" ....................... you are in trouble!
May it not be so in our lives!
