Islamophobia

What is Islamophobia?

Islamophobia is a pejorative word, used of anyone who criticises the attitudes, actions or pronouncements of Muslim clerics or lay people, in order to stifle any debate.

Important note

A phobia is an irrational fear of something. eg Aracnophobia (of spiders) or xenophobia (of foreigners).

Islamophobia is a confusing term in an important aspect. A fear of people who are different, in this case Muslims, should be called Muslimophobia. Islamophobia must logically mean fear of the religion of Islam - not of Muslim people. But those who use the the term Islamophobia mean that those who are uncomfortable with the aims of the Islamic religion are racists who hate Muslims.

This distinction is important.

Interfaith Dialogue between Christianity and Islam will never work because Islam rejects the basis of Christianity; that Jesus is the son of God and that He was cricified and rose again. To assert these beliefs is called blasphemy by Islam as they contradict Mohammed and the Qur'an.

Religious dialogue will never resolve this difference, and naive Christians who attempt to do this will find themselves tied up in prohibitions that will rob the Gospel of Jesus of all its power, whilst Islam continues to pursue its agenda of world domination.

Christians must relate with Muslims on a personal level, because Jesus wants us to reach out his love to every man. We must not try to argue Muslims into the Kingdom, but we must treat them with love and respect and allow the Holy Spirit to win their hearts.

Failure of Christians ( active Christians and cultural Christians ) to understand and engage with the Muslims they live around will eventually lead to a violent backlash against ordinary Muslims because of some act of Islamic terrorism. Such an outcome would be effectively racial warfare, and would be utterly deplorable.

For these reasons we must know the facts about Islam and decide whether a fear of Islam, concern about its aims and doctrines is irrational and phobic, or rational, justified and healthy?

Notice that whenever called upon to condemn an act of terrorism committed by Muslims, the Muslim spokesmen can never bring themselves to do so without justifying the act, blaming the victims, blaming the foreign policy of the victim nation or claiming victimisation of Muslims.

What is Jihad and what is its final goal?

The word Jihad means "holy war" or struggle.  Advocates of Islam will tell you it means an inner struggle for righteousness, but writers who have left Islam say that this definition never figured in the teaching they received as part of their Muslim upbringing. Jihad was always, only Holy War.

The World for Allah

Look for yourself at the writings and the history of its Prophet in the Quran and the Hadith, an you will find a story of violence and cruelty.   See also the video clips with translations available on www.memri.org and it will become clear that Jihad means a struggle (probably armed) against non-Muslims and especially the Jews.

In Islam there are only two states of existence, Dar es Salaam (House of Peace - under Islam) and Dar el Harb (House of War - not yet under Islam)

In Islamic (Jihad) wars there is no permissible outcome other than victory - Peace agreements are tolerated under the concept of "hudna".   Hudna is the principle that it is permissable to make a truce with an enemy who is too strong, in order to build up strength to attack again once the odds are favourable.   Mohammed used a hudna against Medina.  

Land once held by Islam and then lost, may never be allowed to remain in the hands of infidels.   Spain and much of France are in this category.

Winning new Territory for Allah

A distinction should be made at this stage between Christianity and Islam. While Christianity and Islam both aim to win the World to faith in their God, Jesus sent his followers to make disciples of people from all nations (end of Matthew's gospel), while Islam seeks to bring the nations of the world into subjection to Allah.

Islam is not just a religion; it is also government and legal system - an empire, that was established by Mohammed by means of military conquest.

Jihad may be waged in any manner; not just by warfare.

Ideologically, by winning converts, which is the fair and benign way.

Demographically, by building up numbers in an area. Muslims have been immigrating into democratic nations and settling in communities that tend to become closed. It should also be noted that their birth-rate is higher than western families, and that one born to a Muslim family is a Muslim. To choose another faith is apostasy.

Look around the world and count the number of conflicts that are Muslim separatist wars - seeking to establish an Islamic state in the territory on a non Muslim nation.

Politically, by manipulating the rules and regulations of democratic host nations. and then pursuing "Human Rights" law, pleading victim minority status to advance the Muslim way of life.

This may appear reasonable enough, but people are starting to realise that Multiculturalism is not a good thing. Trevor Philips, the chairman of the Commission for Equalities and Human Rights said that the UK is "sleepwalking into segregation" and the Bishop of Rochester, the Rt Rev Michael Nazir Ali warned (Jan 2008) that Islamic extremeists have created "no-go areas" accross Britain. This provoked the expected denials from Islamic spokesmen, who presumably hoped everyone had forgotten the shameful incident when Home Secretary John Reed visited a Muslim event and was told, "How dare you come to a Muslim area!"

THE TELEGRAPH: John Reid, the Home Secretary, came face to face with the intolerance of militant Islam yesterday as he urged Muslim parents to stand up to the extremists and keep their children from being "groomed" to be suicide bombers. During a speech in east London he was shouted down by Abu Izzadeen, a well-known fundamentalist who has been linked to a now banned organisation and who praised the ''martyrdom" of suicide bombers after the July 7 attacks in London last year. The speech had been trailed by the Home Office and protesters were waiting at a youth centre in Leytonstone waving placards with the slogans ''John Reid go to Hell" and ''John Reid you will pay".

The implications of living in an Islamic nation / area

Muslim communities, once established, start to demand that their practices are observed regardless of the practices of the host nation. This means Sharia (Koranic Law) and Islamic practice.

Dhimmi Status

In an Islamic state there are two levels of status; the Muslim and the Dhimmi (the non Muslim) The Dhimmi has to accept an inferior status, pay the Jizzia (poll tax on non Muslims) and have only half the worth of a Muslim in court (Sharia court). Since even Muslim women have half the value of men, a Dhimmi woman has one quarter the value of a Muslim man. For example, in a case of rape, she would need four witness against the one for a Muslim man .

Dhimmi status originated under the caliphate (which Islam aims to reintroduce worldwide) and imposed the following conditions on Dhimmis. They were...

Forbidden to touch the Qur'an.
Required to wear distinctive clothing and a yellow badge.

Forbidden to practice their religion in public.

Not allowed to own a horse.

Had to pay special taxes.

Were not allowed to defend themselves against a Moslem or to testify against a Moslem.

Forbidden to build new synagogues.

Were not to have houses or tombs higher than those of Moslems.

Were to bury their dead without public grieving.

Were to have their graves level with the ground so that anyone could walk over.

Are we accepting Dhimmi Status?

In December 2007 the rulers of a mosque in Oxford sought permission to broadcast the Muezzin's call to prayer from loudspeakers on thier mosque. This made the newspapers, but mosques in Bradford, Blackburn, Manchester, Bolton, Coventry and Birmingham are already allowed to do this. This may sound an insignificant matter, and may even sound exotically multicultural.

Having spent some time in Jerusalem one comes to realise that this is the call to worship another god, and it also stamping Islamic ownership on the area.

Apparently, at present, only three calls are broadcast in the UK; not the five o'clock in the morning call as is the case in Jerusalem and in Muslim lands.

 

Submitting to Muslim Rules

Do not forget the Mohammed Cartoons row that errupted suddenly around the world several months after a Danish newspaper published cartoon representations of Islam's prophet Mohammed.

Although Islam has permitted depictions of Mohammed in the past, Muslims sought to impose a ban upon the free world.

Britain's Metropolitan Police were very reluctant to take any action against a mob calling for the death of those who insult Islam. See Mohammed Cartoons

Similar tactics were used to intimidate Pope Benedict for quoting a medieval scholar's assesment of Islam at a private event.

The Veil is another issue which is being used by some muslims as a political/legal leverage tool to emphasise separation and force host nations to accept Islamic customs. See BBC web page news.bbc.co.uk on the controversy over Jack Straw's objection to the veil. (Includes pictures and definitions of the various types of veil) The veil is not demanded by the Qur'an (only modesty) and Nonie Darwish points out that it is a new innovation that she never saw while growing up in Egypt. In January 2008 a Manchester magistrate was reprimanded for refusing to deal with the case of a Muslim woman because she was wearing a veil covering her face. He said later he felt the way Ms Hussain was dressed, in a niqab, raised identity issues.

The British Govenment fought long and hard for a law criminalizing criticism of Islam as "Religious Hatred". A similar law in South Australia was used to prosecute a pastor who ran a course for his congregation, explaining the teachings of Islam. A Muslim managed to attend and claimed to have been offended.

Islamic Ownership of Territory

December 2007 also saw the launch of a new website concerned with the issue of the proposed mega-mosque adjacent to the 2012 London Olympics complex.

One of Britain's largest churches, in Hackney, has been compulsorily purchased for demolition to make way for the Olympic facilities, but Islam's Tablighi Jamaat (the controversial Islamic sect) proposes to build the biggest mosque in Europe at West Ham in east London. The proposed mega-mosque would be less than a mile from the main 2012 Olympic stadium, and clearly make a powerful visible statement of the Status of Islam in Britain to everyone flying in to London. The Mosque would have a capacity of many times that required by the Muslim people in East London.

Sharia

Throughout history people have fled persecution, poverty and misery to make a new life in a nation that would welcome them, integrate them and accept them as citizens. The Jews have become citizens of many nations and contributed enormously to those nations. Not everyone is aware, but the Synagogue service includes prayers for the protection and wellbeing of our Queen and government. The ethos practices the word of God given through Jeremiah (Ch 29 v)

This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: "Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper."

This approach presents a problem to Muslims, who are to accept only the law of the Qur'an if they take its teachings seriously. Canada has already fought off attempts to gain authority to establish Sharia courts for civil matters in Muslim areas, but it will arise again wherever and whenever the activists think there is a chance of success. This is especially worrying if one considers the treatment of Moslem women under Sharia.

Sharia, as practiced in Islamic nations includes all the sanction laid down in the Koran / Qur'an.

Death Penalty for adultery - mainly for women

Death penalty for Apostasy - converting from Islam.

Flogging, as sought for the British teacher ( 40 lashes) who allowed her class of seven year olds in Sudan to name a teddy bear Mohammed.

Sharia Banking

Muslims are required to conduct financial affairs under the rules in the Qur'an, which include not charging interest and giving 2.5% of profits to Islamic charities; commendable and benign enough. However, what is the significance of the fact that many western banks are starting to offer Sharia banking services?

U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown restated a call he made as Chancellor for Britain to become the international centre of Islamic finance. 

There are three broad rules of the Islamic legal code, the sharia, that set Islamic finance apart from Western finance. Most straightforwardly, devout Muslims must not get involved with industries that are considered haram (sinful) such as alcohol, gambling, and pig meat. Second, there is an injunction to avoid gharar – excessive risk-taking or uncertainty. And third, while Islamic teaching encourages trading, investment and charitable giving, it bans the creation of money by money. Thus the central Koranic concept driving the Islamic finance industry is riba – interest or usury – which is considered sinful. The injunction against giving or receiving interest makes it hard for Muslims to use conventional banking products, such as savings accounts, loans and mortgages. Moneyweek.com

To insure Sharia compliance, banks must hire Sharia scholars to review and approve each product and practice as “halal”, the Muslim equivalent of kosher in Judaism. Because there is a shortage of such scholars, there is competition between banks to find the best expert to sit on their boards of directors. This provides the highest legitimacy to each ruling because it is made at the director rather management level. It should be noted that most of these scholars are from the school of radical Wahhabi/Salafi Shari’a in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere, holding views diametrically opposed to the basic values of Western civilization.

Zakat demands a tithe of 2.5 percent of revenue be donated to Islamic charity. If western banks follow this rule, their contributions will be staggering. It is certain that a portion of this money will end up in the hands of radical Muslims who are sworn to destroy the U.S. and replace its government with Sharia law.

Sharia is perpetuated by claiming to have its roots in the Koran, but in fact it is mostly the product of rulings and dictates made by Islamic scholars and caliphs over several centuries.

For one, Britain’s PM Gordon Brown has pointedly stated that he intends to make London the Islamic finance capital of the world. Further, he pledged that in 2008 the British government will issue its own “sukuk”, or Shari’a compliant bonds. Yes, government debt issued as Sharia compliant.

The UK Inland Revenue is considering recognising polygamy for some religious groups for tax purposes. Officials have agreed to examine “family friendly” representations from Muslims who take up to four wives under sharia, the laws derived from the Koran. Existing rules allow only one wife for inheritance tax purposes. The Revenue has been asked to relax this so that a husband’s estate can be divided tax-free between several wives. Surely polygamy is not allowed under British law! Are Muslim men to be allowed to flout British Law? Have they achieved the goal of having Sharia overrule the law of the land?

These are merely signs of a trend.

How far is Britain down the road to becoming Islamic?
