Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. 1 Peter 3 v15
To a large extent, wildolive exists to address the questions posed at the top of its home page, and to explore and reclaim what is lacking in western Christianity because it has largely forgotten its Jewish roots and heritage. This is the reason for exploring the Feasts of the Bible.
As the church cut off its Jewish roots it slipped into various evil ways concerning its attitude to, and treatment of the Jews. To understand this it is necessary to revisit church history, world history and Jewish/Christian relationships and doctrines. From an improved understanding of these matters it is possible to explore what should be done to rectify matters.
In the course of building this site it has become apparent that there are large areas of Bible teaching that are not clearly explained to the world at large so a beginners/basics section has attempted to address this need for the benefit of any visitors brought in by search engines. This section also contains important topics, like Healing, that are sidelined in much of the church and really need rediscovering.
Why does wildolive exist at all? Why and how did it start?
Basically, because of a call to build a web site that came in three directions.
1) the challenge to return from excellent teaching at the ICEJ Feast of Tabernacles and tell others the truth about Israel.
2) An instruction from my employer to teach the 16 to 18 year old Communication Studies students how to build web sites.
3) The publication of a book called Cybernauts Awake, calling on Christians to stop complaining about bad stuff on the Internet and start putting good stuff on it.
Since then wildolive has developed alongside my own understanding gained from all the excellent teaching and reading material that I have gratefully received. There has been a strong sense that God has been leading the project along and feeding in the material.
Probably the biggest question the visitor will ask is, why is a Christian web site getting involved in what is going on today in Israel?
Why should a Christian web site devote so many pages to arguments about the conflict in Israel?
Is it right to take sides in a conflict between Jews and Arabs/Muslims?media (Television and newspapers) reports and comments upon what is happening?
Because the truth matters.
Surely the truth should matter to those who love God, since He is truth and His word is truth.
But if the Prophets foretold what is to happen as the world comes against Israel, why fight it? Why try and take on the world's (Satan's) media and governments?
Ours call is the same as God's call to the prophets to just go on spreading the truth / God's message to those whose hearts are hardened and ears stopped. It is not our job to decide who is worth telling.
Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of Adonai saying, "Whom should I send? Who will go for us?" I answered, "I'm here, send me!" He said, "Go and tell this people: 'Yes, you hear, but you don't understand. You certainly see, but you don't get the point!' "Make the heart of this people [sluggish with] fat, stop up their ears, and shut their eyes. Otherwise, seeing with their eyes, and hearing with their ears, then understanding with their hearts, they might repent and be healed!" I asked, "Adonai, how long?" and he answered, "Until cities become uninhabited ruins, houses without human presence, the land utterly wasted; until Adonai drives the people far away, and the land is one vast desolation. (CJB)
If God’s children are forming their understanding of world events from their TV screen rather than from God’s word, they are heading for disastrous confrontation with God.
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. - - Romans 12 v2.
It should be obvious that our media is controlled by the world; not by godly men, but many Christians cheerfully and uncritically accept what the TV tells them; at least where Israel is concerned. Christians who watch TV need to study the way our adversary (Satan) uses the media to further his ends and undermine the purposes of God.
In the Bible God can’t stop talking about Israel but many theologians have developed ways of reading the Bible that avoid the simple, plain message concerning Israel. Derek Prince described Israel as the bottom button test for our theology – if you get the bottom button wrong when buttoning up a cardigan, all the rest will be wrong too. If you get it wrong about Israel, the rest will be wrong too.
God has His plan for winding up this present age and it involves His people the Jews and His chosen location, Israel. If Christians take the world’s policy and join in the process of destroying Israel and the Jews they will find themselves on the wrong side when the battle lines are drawn up for the final battle; they will be facing the returning Jesus (the Messiah, the King of Revelation on his white horse.
If Christians are taking the wrong side they must be placing God in a terrible quandary. He promised that he would curse those who despise Israel, but how can God curse Christians? But are they really Christians at all? Is Israel the litmus test for the church? I don’t know but I wonder how much more blessed the church would be if large sections of it were not busily cursing Israel.
If you discard the Israel stuff (Torah, Prophecy, Feasts, prayers, blessings etc) in the Bible model as “Old Testament” you are in danger of inventing your own religion that is man pleasing rather than God pleasing.
Remember “strange Fire” offered by the two eldest sons of Aaron? God’s anger broke out against them when they took fire to burn incense but not as commanded. ( Leviticus 10)
Aaron's sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD , contrary to his command. So fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD . Moses then said to Aaron, "This is what the LORD spoke of when he said: " `Among those who approach me I will show myself holy; in the sight of all the people I will be honored.' " Aaron remained silent.
How much Christian worship involves taking the world’s music, communication techniques and worldview and adding Christian words and imagery?
Possibly the best answer to “Why?” is Sandra Teplinsky’s “Why Care About Israel?” in which she works through all the issues that most of the church has got wrong. She catches the central issue in her conclusion to Chapter 13 (Discerning Truth in Perplexing Times)
“The reason I spent so much time on history is that it is repeating itself before our eyes, on our watch. We still hear the lies, we still misjudge God’s people.
How will you respond?
Are you convinced God still blesses those who bless Israel and curse those who curse her?
Do you want your heart and mind set on His?”
